PROPOSED INTERVENTION

Much of the data reported that the cause of the “unfairness” of the dorms is attributed to the difference in quality and amenities offered by the buildings. As a result, the suggested intervention would be to change the rates of the rooms depending on style and condition (style: hall vs. suite, condition: A/C or vs. no A/C).

Considering the research of other practices at various universities, we propose the best solution to making the prices of freshmen dorm buildings more fair would be to increase the room rate of the buildings that are suite style with A/C by +$1,200.00, suite style without A/C by +$600.00, hall style with A/C by +$400.00, and hall style without A/C by -$200.00.

We have defined “suite style” as two rooms sharing a private bathroom cleaned by the residents (this would exclude the Village dorms - Chappelear, Dingledine, Frederikson, Garber, Hanson, Huffman, Ikenberry, Weaver, White).

We have defined “hall style” as three or more rooms sharing a community bathroom cleaned by housekeeping staff (this would include the Village dorms).

This intervention would allow for a more fair system, meeting the needs of current freshmen that believe that the dorm buildings should be priced differently due to their varying amenities and quality.
